  • Dr. Outcalt was one of the best, if not the best, instructors I have had . . . He was engaged, provided tons of resources, and gave detailed, personal feedback. One of the downfalls of many instructors is their feedback feels very "copy and paste". Having Dr. Outcalt quote specific things I wrote and include articles on topics he thought I would enjoy made all the difference.

  • He was extremely engaging when it came to feedback and adding extra insights about discussion posts. I appreciated how quickly he responded to questions and getting our grades back. I also enjoyed the added information shared through announcements and added resources.

  • This instructor was very engaged and enthusiastic with the topic of diversity and students during discussions. This instructor was also very helpful, supportive, and considerate of students' needs and helping them succeed. This instructor always offered help and gave thorough feedback on assignments which I appreciated.

  • Professor Outcalt was fabulous. He took a topic that could have been less than enjoyable and presented it with various resources and points of view. We were given the opportunity to expand on our knowledge of diversity and complexity of what it means, how it can be viewed through many lenses and the importance that plays, not only in our educational journey but in our personal and professional lives.

  • One of the Best instructors I have ever had, Don't change anything. Wish I had educators like Charles Outcalt in the past would have made a huge difference. Very understanding, helps and answers questions literally anytime of the day and is always encouraging.

  • The professor was extremely helpful and kind and really wanted me to succeed. I felt through their words and their compassionate nature that they truly cared and tried to do their best to help me. I probably wouldn't have survived the class without them. So I appreciate their guidance and really want to thank them for really empowering me to keep going with my studies.

  • Very communicative and very interactive the entire course, so much information provided to us that was interesting, intriguing, and overall just fantastic. Thank you so much for being supportive and caring for a complete stranger! Thank you for always expeditiously grading, the feedback, and help. Teachers like you make the learning experience amazing and worth it.

  • Professor Outcalt is one of the most genuine and kindest professors I have had so far. He really cares about his students and their success in the program. He is so supportive and easy to talk to. He made taking diversity much more interesting and worthwhile

  • The instructor was great. He was very helpful and understanding. He was willing to help me work past my writer's block. He was by far the best instructor that I have had . . ..

  • Professor Outcalt's course allows for open dialogue between students - to help the students further understand the meaning of diversity and inclusion. Very well put together.

  • Professor Outcalt was fabulous. He was incredibly understanding, accommodating, and patient, as well as incredibly knowledgeable about his subject. I don't know that I've had a better instructor . . . and I would take this course again just for the pleasure of learning from him.

  • Responsive, clear, engaged. He provided context to all of our assignments and readings and would follow up during the week. It was nice to have an instructor who genuinely cared about all of us doing well, and was not going through the motions of assigning work and grading. I very much enjoyed his participation in our discussions each week and read most of everyone's discussion points and responses. Perhaps I just enjoyed the subject but he helped make it a good experience.

  • Out of all the instructors I have had . . . , he just may be the best one. It was very clear that he was taking the time to actually get to know all of us through our discussion posts and assignments. All of his announcements seemed genuine and written in the moment rather than copy/pasted and scheduled. He knew our names. He remembered details about us from our introductions. He took the time to provide personal feedback and actually remembered key details about each student in the class. He went the extra mile to provide additional resources and topics to consider each week and was never once pushy about anything. He was respectful, kind to everyone in the class and acted with compassion. Plus, he made a point to be very communicative about his availability and any possible delays in grading. Overall, he was a fantastic instructor and seems to be an overall good person as well -- and it was a pleasure take this course. I really appreciate how he took the time to create a comfortable classroom and supported our pursuit to learn more about the different lenses.

  • My instructor was great. He was fair, engaging, and very courteous. I was actually really worried on that front. I am a conservative and a very traditional Catholic. I have friends who failed out of diversity classes for speaking up on issues, and others who basically lied to get the grade, and others who have had to appeal grades on every assignment. The people I know didn't attend this school, though. Professor Outcalt was not biased in his grading, and he was very constructive in his advice and comments on all assignments. It was a great pleasuring working in this professors class and I felt listened to and valued in the group. Honestly, I'd give this professor a promotion for being such an engaged, thoughtful, and thorough instructor.

  • Professor Outcalt is an incredible asset! He was, by far, the most engaged, connected, and responsive instructor I've had. His feedback went beyond the objectives of the course and the mechanics of assembling the required assignments. His feedback forced me to think deeper and go further in my pursuit of knowledge. I could write for an hour on what a pleaseure his guidance was but suffice to say that he has sparked in me a true longing to pursue teaching. The experience - though challenging at times - was just amazing and I'm energized and ready to continue learning.

  • Professor Charles Outcalt is an outstanding instructor and one of the best I have had finishing up my . . . degree . . .. You can tell he genuinely cared about all of the topics everyone discussed throughout the course. He provided great feedback on all of the assignments in a timely manner. His feedback provided me with great ideas and ways to strengthen my future assignments.

I believe Dr. Outcalt elevated the whole remote learning experience in many ways and I would definitely take another class with him.

  • Dr. Outcalt is by far the best professor I have had while attending . . . He always implored us to do our best and let us know he was available should we need him. He is kind, knowledgeable, and supportive. I never once thought I was alone during this course, and wish more professors were as engaged with their students as he was.

  • Charles was great. He was knowledgeable and approachable but what I liked most was that he was very engaged and seemed genuinely interested in our thoughts and opinions. He provided insightful feedback and encouragement throughout the course. He was one of my favorite instructors so far. He was responsive, i.e., quick to get back to answer my questions whether by email or on discussion board. I would give him an A+
